Lee’s Crossing

Monthly Newsletter                                                              February 2007

From the President…

Dear Neighbors,

I wanted to take this opportunity to highlight two issues that should be of interest to our neighborhood and community.

First, I am certain many of you have heard about the Restoration of the Strand Theater on Marietta Square.  In its day the Strand was the highlight of a trip to the Square.  However, as mega theaters sprang up the Strand saw its glory fade and now sits vacant and run down.  But we can help bring back its glory and add some pizzazz to our Square. It would be quite exciting to see that marquee light up the Square again and add another destination spot.  Friends of the Strand, a non-profit organization, has been set up to Save the Strand with a fundraising goal of $350,000 by March 1st.  Your donations could help reach this goal.  Visit www.FriendsoftheStrand.com for more information or to make a donation.  Let’s not let this community treasure get away.

Next, we have all heard much discussion about the future of Hickory Hills Elementary and its possible impact on Burruss.  The value of our property in Lee’s Crossing is directly impacted by the success of Burruss Elementary.   Each of us should be concerned about the success of Burruss, whether we have elementary age kids or not.  Over the next few weeks you will have opportunities to hear about the many great programs going on at Burruss.  There is a PTA meeting Thursday, February 8th, an open house at Rick and Eve Kool’s home in Lee's Crossing on Sunday, February 11th and a second open house at Bruce and Anne Krantz’s home in Carriage Oaks on Monday, February 12th.  The Principal, Julie King and Marietta School Superintendent, Dr. Emily Lembeck will be available.  Everyone is invited to attend both the open houses and the PTA meeting.  The topics to be discussed include:

  • A new Communications and Technology Focused Curriculum beginning Fall 2007
  • Foreign Languages for K-5
  • Gifted Certification for all Teachers
  • Georgia Performance Standards
  • Changes to the Math Curriculum
  • Proposed Uniform Policy

I encourage everyone to get involved in these activities as they both impact our neighborhood and community.

As always, if you have questions or comments, please give me a call.

Best Regards,

Around the Neighborhood

Neighborhood Business Spotlight

This section is dedicated to helping each of us in Lee’s Crossing get to know our neighbors a little better.  Many of you are independent business people or work for companies that others of us would be interested in supporting – we just need to know about what you do and how to get in touch with you.

If you would like to advertise your business, please send us a BRIEF paragraph giving pertinent information about your company along with contact information.  Submissions will printed first come - first serve each month, based on space.  Competitors will not be published in the same month.  Send your information to leescrossing@comcast.net.

Genesis Management Services has over ten years experience in managing building programs for owners.  We help the owner plan budgets and schedules, hire architects and contractors, write contracts and oversee the construction process.  While we work with all types of non-residential clients, we specialize in working with churches and schools.  If your business, church or school is contemplating a building program, please call Carl Trevathan at 770-528-0992 or visit our website at www.gms-usa.net.

I Recommend……

This is your opportunity to recommend a business to your neighbors.  If you know of someone that does a good job, please send us a SHORT testimonial that we can share.

Cheryl Harcharic would like to recommend a math tutor. Kim Strickland specializes in upper level math courses, but will tutor all subjects and levels. She has 13 years of teaching experience from pre-algebra through advanced calculus. She resides nearby and can be reached at 770-218-3952.  She tutors one on one or groups up to 4.

Eddie and Tricia Wilson would like to give a brief testimonial about a fellow neighbor who is in the countertop business. “Of all times, my husband and I decided to give our kitchen a much needed update two weeks before Christmas. We had seen his work in one prior house. Bill Dickman came to our home, and within one week, had our new countertops and backsplash in. He did exactly what he said he would do, was there when he promised and you could not beat the price. We would highly recommend Bill Dickman with Crowe Custom Countertops.
